Mets and Yankees Prepare For Santana War

The Mets and the Yankees will be at war for one of baseballs best pitchers this off season. Johan Santana is going to be put on the market by the Minnesota Twins and every major league team is expected to go hard after him. The Mets and Yankees are 2 of the likeliest scenarios if he is dealt. Omar Minaya has already said he would go hard after Santana if he was put on the market. This is a dream come true for me if we land Santana. He is my favorite pitcher in baseball and I think he can lead us to a World Championship. The Twins have already expressed interest in Carlos Gomez to fulfill the void left in CF once Torii Hunter departs (if he does). A package for Santana could be something in the range of - Gomez, Maine, and one of our top prospect pitchers Guerra/Pelfrey/Humber/Mulvey. Now we can only wait and see. And Pray...

Marlon Anderson Resigns, Mets Decline Valentin's Option

My personal favorite Met of 07' besides David Wright will be back for the 08' and 09' seasons. Marlon Anderson was our best pinch hitter this year and a key part of our team. I was upset when we let him walk last year, only to bring him back mid-year. Now we have him locked up for the next two seasons including our first season in Citi Field. This is great news for the upcoming season. Also the Mets declined the options on Jose Valentin and Brian Lawrence. In my eyes Valentin will be missed as I loved his style of play. On the other hand with Lawrence, good riddance.

Mets To Meet With A-Rod and Scott Boras Thursday

This is big news if you want A-Rod on the Mets. Although him signing a deal is probably a long way off, this may help lay the groundwork. Now they can at least skip the basics as far as what he wants in there next discussion. From what I've been hearing from the GM meetings, Minaya may say to Boras - "What do i got to do to get A-Rod in a Mets uniform". Minaya may have already put A-Rod at the top of his wish list and this may be the first step in a lengthy negotiation process. We will see what happens.

DAVID WRIGHT AND CARLOS BELTRAN WIN GOLD GLOVES

David Wright wins his first gold glove of his career. Beltran wins just another one in his illustrious career. David despite accuracy problems deserved this award in my eyes and I think it even comes a year to late. I believe he was better in 06' defensively. This a great day in Mets baseball in that for the first time since Robin Ventura and Rey Ordonez did it, 2 Mets one a gold glove in the same year. This also may be a reason why the Mets recommend that if A-Rod came aboard he would have to move to first base instead of Wright. But we will see. Congrats to Mr. Wright and Mr. Beltran.

A-ROD WANTED 350 MILLION FROM YANKS?

If what I've been reading and hearing on sites everywhere, Alex Rodriguez wanted 350 million over 12 years to come back to the Yankees. Not just that, he said if the Yanks didn't put that 350 mil on the table he wouldn't have even taken the meeting with them. If this is true I will retract my statement that what the Yankees are doing is wrong by not respecting his opt out clause and just treating him like a free agent. Also if this is true I think the Mets should not even consider going after A-Rod and just go full force after Starting Pitching and Bullpen. 350 mil is ludicrous and no one on the planet deserves that to play a sport.

Noah Lowry Available?

San Francisco Giants Starting Pitcher Noah Lowry has been said to be available for trade by a few sources. Giants GM Brian Sabean has said that he would look to acquire a position player, preferably a lead-off style hitter in return. Last season (2007) he was 14-8 with a 3.92 ERA. However he missed all of September due to injury to his elbow. A MRI revealed that it was not as bad as first thought and that it should not affect the rest of his career. To me those stats are amazing for a Giants team that did not do very well this year and had little offensive production besides Bonds. Lowry turned 27 last month and certainly has a bright career still ahead of him. That being said I think that if they wanted a lead-off style player with speed, Carlos Gomez name would have to be brought into consideration. Carlos Gomez is going to be a fantastic player whether its for the Mets or for someone else. But that being said the Mets are going to have a very packed outfield for years to come. Next year we will probably enter the season with Alou in LF, Beltran in CF, and Milledge in RF. Not to mention we have a bright prospect named Fernando Martinez who will be ready in a year or two. This makes Gomez expendable. And if it were at the hands of getting a young SP like Noah Lowry, then I'm all for it.

Jorge Posada A Possibility?

From what im hearing on ESPN and various radio stations, Jorge Posada may consider leaving the Yankees now that Joe Girardi is the manager. Posada and Girardi did not get along very well during the Yankees 90's dynasty team days and may not be willing to work together. The Mets have been said to have interest in Posada this offseason and may now look to sign him. He will probably command a 4 year deal from what ive been hearing in the range of 40 million dollars. If I were Minaya I wouldn't go past 2 years at 20 mill with a mutual option for a 3rd year. Posada is 36 years old now and know one knows how long he will be able to put up the same numbers he did last year. Im still all in favor of a Lo Duca return, but that remains to be seen.

Rudy Jaramillo Resigns with Texas

The mets were said to be interested in bringing him in as our hitting coach and moving HOJO back to first base coach...

Luis Castillo Returning?

Omar Minaya is currently in talks with Luis Castillo and his agents Sam and Seth Levinson about returning to the Mets in 08' and beyond to be their 2B. I hope they bring him back despite his knee problems (which he recently had surgery on) amongst other injury problems. I think him and Jose make a lethal double play combination.

Curt Schilling

A day or two ago former Red Sox pitcher and current free agent Curt Schilling released a list of about 12 teams he would play for next season. The Mets were on that list thankfully. He said he is only looking for a one year deal with hopes of winning another ring like he did this year. I would be all in favor of giving a one year deal in the 10-11 million dollar range. That would of course be the money we would have spent on Tom Glavine. As much as I loved Tom Glavine in his days with the Mets I think judging by his exit in our final game this season his days here are numbered. I think he is still a adequate pitcher but not worthy of what he will be asking for. I think that giving Curt Schilling that money for a one year deal would be great for our rotation and would re-unite Pedro and Schilling for one last go around. What do you all think?

ALOU AND EASLEY RETURN FOR 08'

Yesterday Moises Alou and Damion Easley resigned to play for the Mets in 08'. I was very happy that the Mets picked up Alou's option after the season he just had for us. He is a terrific player and I really look foward to what he can do for us next year. I am also very pleased we retained Damion Easley. He was a force off the bench for us this year and came through in countless situations. I am just a little worried he may not be able to stay healthy all season. That same worry goes for Alou as well even though 100 games from him would do wonders for this lineup. But all in all I am very pleased and look foward to next season so far.

Should The Mets make a run at Alex Rodriguez?

With all the talk about Alex Rodriguez opting out of his deal with our rival New York Yankees I thought this topic would be appropriate. Alex came very close to becoming a Met just 7 years ago wen he was on the open market. He grew up in New York, New York and was a fan of the Mets. He openly stated he wanted to play for us before he signed his mega 10 year 252 million dollar contract with the Rangers. My question is, should we sign him and reconstruct our infield? Maybe by putting Wright (who mind you had great defense at 3rd but an inaccurate arm) at first base. Then trade Delgado for starting pitching or bullpen. What do you think?
